Remedial massage
Equipment and hot and cold compresses may be used in this massage
Remedial massage is used for any sports injuries and for localized areas it is a deeper massage than a Swedish massage.
Remedial massage has short and long term effects on the body, bringing about the process of healing. It is one of the most effective and natural treatments for stress related conditions. Some short term and long term effects are shown below.
Short term effects are:
To increase the blood flow, both in the area being massaged and generally
To increase the lymphatic flow to and from the area treated, reducing pain, swelling and inflammation and speeding up the body's own healing process
To relieve stress and tension, factors which are known to hinder healing or slow it down, and cause problems of their own
To reduce muscle tension, thereby improving the blood supply to an area
To increase muscle tone
Long term effects are:
Improved general circulation
Balance of the muscles and joints, leading to a better state of health
Breaking down of scar or fibrous tissue, restoring elasticity to the joints
Greater mobility within the joints of the body
Overall relief of stress
Greater immunity to further injuries of the same area.
Indonesian / Balinese massage
Indonesian Massage is a deep oil-based massage dating back more than 4000 years; it includes Javanese and Balinese massage and is similar to Ayurvedic massage. Indonesian Massage can be performed on a mat on the floor or on a massage couch or seated on a chair. The therapist uses body weight to achieve the depth needed to work on the body to remove blocked energy and wind. The massage is started dry to warm the body then oils are added.
Indonesian Massage uses oil that is therapeutic and has a beneficial effect on the body's circulation and lymphatic system and helps release the natural regenerative and self-healing powers. Unlike other oil-based forms of Western massage, Indonesian techniques are designed to give very deep stimulation to the soft tissues. Tense, knotted muscles quickly yield to smooth, deep thumb pushing along each individual muscle, which gives thorough stimulation to the soft tissues. All soft tissue work intuitively follows the courses of the Chinese energy meridians, and it is a highly effective treatment for sports injuries.
Indonesian Massage is a highly effective treatment for repetitive strain type sports injuries. It is also good for the treatment of stiff and painful muscles in the neck, shoulders or back and is also very effective for conditions affecting the abdominal organs such as constipation, indigestion, bloating, heartburn, and irritable bowel syndrome. Sessions usually last about one hour to one hour and a half and will leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed, rejuvenated and re-energised.

Hot stone therapy
A type of massage using specially heated volcanic lava stones, combined with Swedish-style massage movements, which has healing properties for both skin and muscles.
Hot stone massage is an ancient practice originating thousands of years ago from the Far East.
Special smooth lava stones are heated to a comfortably warm temperature prior to treatment. This treatment can be given in several different ways, but one way is to being with you being wrapped in a towel and invited to lie down on several warm, smooth stones arranged and possible also covered with a towel, for your comfort. While the heat penetrated your body, you will be given a Swedish style massage, probably with aromatherapy oils. The stones should be hot and relaxing. Hot stones will be used to massage arms legs and back. Often a light head massage is included.
The theory is that the heat from the stones helps to increase your hearty rate and helps to regulated blood flow. It also helps to rid the muscles of toxic waste products, which build up from stress and bad lifestyle habits. Stiff joints benefit from the penetrating heat, making this an excellent choice after exercise or any physical work. Hot stone therapy is used to help relieve stress, depression, PMT and is also effective for some skin disorders.
Sometimes cold stones are used along with the warm ones, to further stimulate the circulation. The whole treatment is both relaxing and revitalising and is said to clear the body's energy channels to promote wellbeing and good health. One thing most people say after a hot stone therapy session is that they sleep really well the night after treatment and always look forward to going back.
